Outreach
Outreach is an important and emphasized part of PRAETORIAN. We strive to educate, engage and spread awareness/interest to those outside and inside of the scientific community about sepsis and our research. Below you will find examples of our current and upcoming outreach activities.
Virtual Outreach Activities
- The PRAETORIAN doctoral candidate (DCs) will be managing and updating the PRAETORIAN website, as well as PRAETORIAN social media accounts (platforms such as Instagram, LinkedIn and X) at least every 3rd month. On these virtual platforms, the DCs will be posting activities and news related to the consortium and their respective PhD projects (e.g. research outputs, abstracts in conferences/meetings, new funding sources, published articles, training activities and any related news). The information will be presented in a non-confidential and understandable fashion (e.g., newsletters and educational videos).
-
Each DC will be producing evidence on the topics they address. From the second year of their PhD, this evidence will be summarized in a series of short and friendly-style written Fact Sheets, downloadable from the project website to the general public.
Outreach to the General Public (In-person)
-
To raise awareness of the public’s understanding of sepsis and challenges in the drug discovery & development process, the DCs are encouraged to give short talks to general audiences at public events. For example, by giving short talks to high-school students to motivate and inspire a next generation to study science.
-
The DCs will be participating in the European Pint of Science Festival/other public events at their host cities.
-
The DCs are encouraged to participate in any campaign specifically conceived for attracting young people in research, e.g., “International Day of Women and Girls in Science”.
-
Each DC will plan an outreach activity on World Sepsis Day (September 13th every year). The respective national ICU patient associations will support the DCs in organizing the event and to disseminate/communicate their work in layman language.
-
From their second PhD year onwards, the DCs will be encouraged to present their work to the community of sepsis patients or sepsis foundations in their hosting country.
Academically-related Outreach Activities
-
The doctoral candidates (DCs) will give short presentations or demonstrations at academic activities (when possible), e.g. European Researchers’ Night and "science nights" at their respective host universities. The DCs will meet together with other DCs from other MSCA consortia during these activities.
Industrially-related Outreach Activities
-
The DCs will be trained by industrial partner companies on how to present their science in a comprehensible way to non-scientists, using e-marketing communications via the contributing company’s websites, and through formal articles written for a non-scientific audience e.g. in business magazines.
